Scarlet Macaws are Disappearing

Hi! I’m LoraKim Joyner, an avian veterinarian from the USA, a parrot conservationist, and the Co-Director of One Earth Conservation, along with Gail Koelln. We recently opened a wild parrot rescue center in Honduras. Why is this important? Well, with all of the environmental crises humanity is facing, it can be hard to believe that individuals can make a difference. In Honduras, we’re fighting back by helping native people save their national bird, the scarlet macaw, and stand up against corruption and violence. The rescue center helps local families support themselves, preserve biodiversity and strengthen the ecosystem. Join me in this work, because we need your help. Click here to donate now!

The wild parrot rescue center in Honduras is a model for working with nature to protect us all from ecological collapse, such as climate change, extinction and loss of biodiversity. All of these issues impact humanity as a whole. Won’t you please help the native people (the Miskitos) help the parrots? Our goal is to seek enough donations for one year until we can build a sustainable model to support the center and to make some needed improvements as well.  For this to happen we need a total of $17,500 (please see the Contribute Now! page for more details about how we will use the funds). Please contribute between August 13 and December 31, 2015, so we can reach our goal as soon as possible, and begin plans to spread the influence of this rescue center throughout the region. We do this so that in the only remaining place in Honduras where the country’s national bird survives as a natural population, the people and parrots can flourish.  With your support and solidarity, we help the Miskitos save themselves, and save the parrots. If you'd like to learn more, please read the background story on the Our Story page of this site.

Thank you for your support,
LoraKim Joyner
